BAR PATRON BY ROCKPOOL

If your yet to check out the Rockpool dining group's latest premium venture Bar Patrón in Circular Quay than we have the perfect excuse for you.
July the 24th marks World Tequila Day and to celebrate this joyous occasion Bar Patrón is putting on something special so naturally it's our top pick to commemorate the day.

Grab a group of friends and get ready for a unique experience at Sydney’s newest tequila haven, all while enjoying some traditional Mexican food. As far as we are concerned Neil Perry has the Midas touch but of course we have done our due diligence and trust us, the guacamole alone will have you planning a prompt revisit.

On the 24th of July guests who select the $65 set menu for lunch or dinner will receive a complimentary Patrón Tequila tasting flight of tequila from Bar Patrón’s exclusive barrel select series. How cool is that? Hearing all about what makes some of Bar Patrón’s exclusive tequilas so unique is very interesting indeed. We were privy to a preview and sipping on our samples we made eyes at each other commenting that each one certainly has its own unique flair. After some careful deliberation we decide we prefer Batch 262, barrelled for 7months in French Limousin oak as it imparts a sweet and buttery finish.

Making sure we also sampled a few other bits on offer we had to try the ‘Clarified Margarita’ which we believe is best described as the sophisticated Margarita. It is crystal clear like pure water and although exhibiting all the hallmark Margarita flavours it seems smoother and more refined than its traditional cousin. It’s dangerously easy to drink too so definitely make sure your Ubering. When compiling this article we learned that the Clarified Margarita is actually a VIP cocktail so maybe give the bar tender a wink and with a little smoozing I’m sure he’ll make it for you. Seriously it’s worth a visit just for the cocktails but before we even touch on the acclaimed ‘Millionaire Margarita’ let’s chat about the food.

The set menu caters well for the vegetarians and pescatarians among us and the staggered delivery and perfect proportions created by talented Head Chef Pamela Valdés is well executed. Our tip however is pace yourself, we know the guac is amazing but trust us the quesadillas and tortillas are just as sensational.

So if you have mustered up a crew and your all feeling inspired to really celebrate World Tequila Day then may we also suggest each throwing in a tenner to try the ‘Millionaire Margarita’. At $100 a pop the names fitting but watching this cocktail being made is real treat.

A little table-side theatrics never disappoints and who doesn’t love watching a master bar tender at work. For those of you experienced with premium liquor this cocktail includes Gran Patrón Burdeos tequila and a spritz of Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac amongst other delightful ingredients. It’s impressive indeed with a powerful layered delivery and given we had a table of 8 we all managed to sneak in multiple savoured sips as it was dutifully passed along.

Just when night couldn’t possibly get any better the deserts land before us. You have the choice of the Flan Napolitano or the Tres Leches cake… It’s so hard to recommend one over the other as both are heavenly. The decadent Leches cake is light but very sweet mostly due to the fact it’s drenched in condensed milk so maybe for us the Flan is the winner. It’s dense and creamy with just the slight hint of tequila and even though you may say you’ve had enough you’ll find your spoon magnetically drawn in for another mouthful.  Regardless whatever you choose for dessert make a deal with your mate to split it because that way everyone wins!

P.S If  your wondering what to wear to Bar Patrón think classy and sophisticated. It may be Mexican but there’s nothing casual about this little gem. With Sydney Harbour Bridge views and $100 cocktails it definately calls for your Valentinos and something fabulous. xx
